Pets are good for us!
We believe in and promote responsible pet ownership. Not only are pets great companions and family members but there is evidence that they can help reduce stress in adults and help children to learn about life and even do better at school!
We match pets to people
Responsible pet ownership
If you are thinking of buying a pet, our trained store colleagues will spend time with you to make sure that you choose the right pet to suit yours and the animal’s lifestyles. By matching owners and pets we hope to ensure a long and happy relationship. Please be aware that we are only able to sell pets to customers who are over the age of 18.
Bringing a pet into your life and home is a huge commitment. You are promising to look after it and care for it throughout its life. So, in the interests of responsible pet ownership, we will not sell pets to under 18’s unless they are accompanied by an adult. We also appreciate that travelling can be stressful for many animals and so try to minimise the distance that animals travel from breeders to our stores. On arrival in store, pets are given time to rest away from the shop floor. This varies by species and helps us to ensure that they are happy and healthy before they are moved to their new home.
Puppies and Kittens
Of course, we love puppies and kittens as much as other animals but we recommend that you obtain them from a reputable local breeder, who will be able to provide specific breed advice. Check out the Puppy Index in store for details of local breeders. Alternatively, why not visit your local rescue centre where you’ll find puppies and kittens along with older dogs and cats looking for adoption by loving new owners.
In store we have rabbits, guinea pigs and a selection of the smaller pets such as hamsters and gerbils. All our small animals are bred by reputable specialists.
We stock a range of tropical, coldwater and temperate fish suitable for beginners right through to more experienced fishkeepers. Don’t forget, it is important to wait at least 3 days with all the tank systems running before adding any fish in order for the environment to stabilise, to ensure the filter is running, the temperature is stable and the tank is decorated to your satisfaction. We also carry out a free water test to ensure the condition is perfect for your new arrivals. Simply bring a sample of water from your new tank into your local store and a member of the team will be happy to help. When you begin to add fish this must be done gradually over a number of weeks and not all at once so the filter can adjust to the increased waste products in the tank produced by the fish.
